MATCHPLAY AT SHERWOOD FOREST GC
The Mens & Seniors Matchplay Championship took place today at Sherwood Forest GC.
Mens
The top 8 qualifiers from both the Mens Amateur and Seniors Championship qualify.
Opening the Mens matches was County Champion Mark Porter (Sherwood Forest) who took on Peter Stephenson (Worksop), the result was a victory to Mark Porter 3/2. The 2nd match of the Mens was American college player Lennon Albans (Hollinwell) play Lee Shepherd (Sherwood Forest), the result was a win for Lennon 3/2. The 3rd match was between American college graduate and defending Matchplay Champion Killian Ryan (Hollinwell) took on county veteran Ross Overton (Sherwood Forest) , the result was a victory for Overton 1up. The 4th and final match of the Mens was between 14 year old Theo Nelson (Coxmoor) and Jake Benson (Beeston Fields), what an achievment for youth Nelson to qualify in the top 8. The result of the match was a victory for Jake Benson 3/2.

Seniors
Newly crowned Seniors Champion Colin Rodgers (Norwood Park) took on county legend Mark Betteridge (Coxmoor) , the result a win for Betteridge 3/2. In the 2nd match local player Willie Colquhoun (Sherwood Forest) played Neil Sanderson (Chilwell Manor), the result was a victory to Sanderson 1 up. The 3rd match saw county seniors new comer Mick Hancock (Worksop) play multi seniors winner Chris Powell (Sherwood Forest), the result was a win for Hancock 2/1. In the final match of the round , our most successful senior player for many years and defending champion Charles Banks (SOTW) play Steve Hogg (Rushcliffe), the result was a win for Banks at the 2nd extra hole.
