BANKS & RYAN WIN THE MATCHPLAY

MATCHPLAY REPORT

The Men’s and Senior Matchplay Championships took place at County course Wollaton Park over the weekend.

This is the first year that the fields have been reduced to 8 players in both the Men’s and Seniors.

MENS QUARTER FINALS

In the opening match Killian Ryan overcame Adam Dorricott 2 & 1, following on was a high-end match between county first team Cole Betteridge and Matt Hogg, Betteridge managed to triumph 3 & 2.

The match between Ross Overton and Chris Wakefield went to extra holes with Wakefield winning the match on the 19th.

In the final match of the morning George Cordall beat Dean Reddington on the last hole.

The semi finals saw Ryan take on Betteridge, with Ryan overcoming Betteridge by 2 & 1. In the same match Wakefield played Cordall, with Cordall triumphing 3 & 2. So, a final between Ryan & Cordall, both collage players in America. The match was a high-quality affair and show cased amateur golf at its finest, with Ryan playing very strongly closing out Cordall 3 & 2.

This means Ryan has won both the Strokeplay and Matchplay, he is also having a great season in America.

SENIOR QUARTER FINALS

The Seniors matches got underway after the men’s quarter finals with Charles Banks taking on College Pines John Stockdale, Banks triumphed 5&4, in the second match Steve Fretwell edged Powell our 2 &1. The third match was Mark Betteridge and Steve Hogg, with Betteridge edging past Hogg 2&1.

In the final quarter match Wollaton Park head greenkeeper Martin Scothern overcame Worksop’s Andrew marsh 3 &2.

The Semi Finals saw Banks take on Fretwell and Betteridge take on Scothern.

Both matches were played in great spirit with both Banks and Betteridge winning. Banks by 6&5 and Betteridge by 5&4.

In the final Banks overcame Betteridge by 1 hole, as in the Men’s this means Banks has won both the Strokeplay and the Matchplay.

Special thanks again to Wollaton Park, a great golf course, in stunning condition overlooked by the 16th century Elizabethan Hall on a beautiful weekend, what more could you want.
