EDDIE PETERS REPORT

EDDIE PETERS REPORT

The first event of 2023 County season got under way on Sunday 26th March at County course Wollaton Park. The Eddie Peters Trophy is a very long-standing county season opener.

The best gross of the day takes the trophy, but with four additional gross prizes plus five handicap prizes, there is plenty to play for. The event is open to golfers up to a handicap of 9.4, this year saw a record entry of 81.

The weather, despite the rain clearing was cold and windy and made scoring very difficult, despite this Hollinwell’s Lennon Albans who is still a Junior, shot a very impressive 68 – 3 under par. which left the field in his wake.

In second place was College Pines Martin McCart with a level par 71, in third place was Worksop’s Joe Blackburn with 72 winning on count back from Sherwood Forest’s pair Jacob Smith and Liam Taylor.

In the Handicap event a super net 67 from Norwood Park was Oliver Gratton who took the handcap salver. In runner up spot was Callum Smith from Worksop with net 70, third palce was William Burbidge from Hollinwell with 71. Fourth place with 71 was Neil Pond from College Pines, in 5th and final prize spot was John Jenkins from SOTW GC with net 72.

Many thanks to Wollaton Park who produced a fine course, despite recent poor weather, the greens were excellent. As the season progresses the course will only get better and all players can look forward to it.
